Blog Post 15
Avery Semidey
4/25/17
For my premiere project, I will be telling the story of the Pi Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. More specifically, I will be talking about how Kappa Alpha Psi's birth, passing, and rebirth on our beautiful campus. In the Spring of 2005, 11 young men, 1 being from Elon University sought out to begin a new chapter in Kappa Alpha Psi (Pi Theta). They were successful in bringing the fraternity to the campus, however, in 2012, all members of the noble klan graduated, leaving High Point University and taking Kappa Alpha Psi with them. Luckily, interest in the fraternity on High Point's campus was still high and 4 young men who go by the names of Demetrius Bell, Giovanni Brooks, Jordan Peebles, and Avery Semidey, with the help of a few older Brothers helped bring the fraternity back to the campus in the Spring of 2017.
If I were to tell this story using a different media such as InDesign I would basically have a picture of the Spring '17 line at their probate and have some cool edits here and there. if I were to have produced this in Audition I would just have a 1-2 minute explanation of the history of the Pi Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi with some cool background music.
If I were explaining this to a different demographic, how I altered it would all depend on the demographic. For example, if I were explaining this to some foreign exchange students from Spain, I would have to change the language to their native language. I would also make sure the background fit their culture. If it were gender specific then I'd make the edits on the InDesign either more masculine or feminine depending on the gender of the target audience.

COM WEEK Post

COM WEEK Event
This week I
had the pleasure of the student showcase COM WEEK event which took place in
Philips 120 on Tuesday evening. I won’t lie, I barely had time to attend. This
past week was extremely busy for me. But, like my mother always tells me “When
there’s a will, there’s a way.” So, I found the time. It wasn’t a very lengthy
event, however, I was able to take a few things here and there from what was
said. Two students presented scripts that they had spent countless hours
preparing. I had trouble following the storyline of the first script. I believe
it was more of an old western type of story, which took an unconventional
approach to the relationship between protagonists and antagonists. I know that
that’s not the most descriptive definition, but that’s what I took from the
script. The second, however, I got a bit more from. Within this student’s
script was a story that was set in a town overrun by zombies due to an outbreak
of some made up disease. Despite, the fact that the town is being overrun by
zombies, he focuses on the relationship of a mother and her son and the
personal struggles they encounter.
After the
students presented their scripts, they discussed the important lessons they
learned from their COM class. They also talked about the process they went
through in writing their script. There is a 10 step process you must follow in
order to properly devise a script. First you must come up with a story concept.
Then, you must brainstorm your story concept and gather all your thoughts so
that you may properly perform the next step: research. After researching, you
then begin character development. Once you are through with developing your
characters comes the toughest part about writing a script: coming up with a
plot (according to these two students). Next on the agenda is outlining your
story. After that, you should start your script diary. The script diary can be
used for a variety of things. If you ever get lost in your thoughts, the script
diary can help to keep you on track. Some people even use their script diary to
talk to their characters, if they are ever feeling unsure about where the story
should go. Yes, this definitely sounds crazy. However, I’m not an author. So, I
wouldn’t understand the proper story making process. The final steps include
creating your first draft, rewriting, and editing. It’s important that one gets
their script reviewed by multiple people, so that they may detect and erase as
many errors as possible.
The last
thing I recall from the event was a boy sharing a film he had created. It was a
sci fi short film series about a boy traveling through time to save a doctor
who can save the world. He also talked about what elements go into making a
film and how expensive production can be.
I learned a lot about what it takes to create a script and a
film. It truly is an expensive complicated, and time consuming process. You
have to really have a love for the art to be successful in the field of media
production.

Interview Vox Pop
Here's my audio: For my blogpost I interviewed two young women asking how they felt about athlete's and honors students receiving priority housing over other students. They ha differing opinions, proving that this is a very controversial topic. After recording them I edited the tracks in Audition, posted the link to soundcloud, and made a blog post about the assignment.

Mugabe Photoshop
Here we have a Mugabe man falling. I used the clipping adjustment layers, masking, healing, and other tools to help me create this hilarious meme. The idea behind making this meme was that I'd cut the Mugabe man out of his original picture, and throw him in a background with a bunch of food in it. He was falling in his original picture, but if you position him the right way in the new image, then he could look like he's kneeling to pray while simultaneously reaching for food. Hence, the caption "When the prayer before you eat is taking too long."

Image resizing homework
For each image I:
1.) Saved them onto my computer
2.) Pulled them up in Photo shop
3.) Changed the inch width in the image adjustment settings
4.) Uploaded each image onto this blogpost and labeled each.

Everything to know about me
I am God fearing, goal driven, comedic, sensitive, and overly protective man. I was born and raised in the heart of the DMV, Upper Marlboro, MD. I have two brothers, however, I only grew up with one because the other was grown and gone to college. My dad was never really around growing up. Howver, unlike my brother, I've got no harsh feelings towards him. You see, my older brother was around eight years old when my dad left, and he absolutely adored my dad. On the other hand, I was only three, so it was like I didn't even remember him. Whereas my brother remembered he and the times they shared very vividly, so when he left my brother was devastated. But my mom has done an exceptional job raising the two of us. All the success that I have achieved so far in life can be traced back to something my mom taught me.
From school work all the way to how a woman should be treated, I learned from my mommy. My mom was a nerd growing up. So, you already know her smarts and work ethic would be passed down to me. Even if they didn't pass down genetically, she would force them upon me. I had no choice but to be great in the classroom. If i wanted to play ball every year, I had to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. This was my main motivator throughout high school, seeing as how I've been in love with basketball and football for as long as I can remember. While I didn't take the opportunity to play ball in college, I probably would have never got to college with out playing ball because that rule kept my grades good at all times.
Most people would think that since I didn't have a father figure in my life, that I'd have no guidance when it comes to how to treat a woman. But, my father not being there was all the guidance I needed. Everything my father has done to my mother as I've growing up is the absolute opposite of how a man should treat his woman. So, as long as I'm nothing like my pops (in terms of how to treat a woman), then I should be just fine. Plus, growing up around all women has helped me see how women, think, function, act, etc. All I've had to do is observe my mother to learn a boat load about women. But, I truly think that you can know everything there is to know about a woman, and still never fully figure them out.
